Whether you’ve had traditional fixed braces or Invisalign clear aligners, you must have retainers fitted once your orthodontic treatment has ended.
At Ascent Dental Care, our dental professionals make sure to double up on retention with both fixed retainers (behind your teeth) and removable retainers (to be worn at night-time only). This dual combination offers the best of both worlds as your newly straightened teeth will be supported 24/7, giving you peace of mind.
One of the most common issues with removable retainers is that people often accidentally misplace their retainers or do not wear them every night. Lost retainers will need to be replaced as they help to keep your teeth in their straight position. Also, if you’re not wearing them consistently every night, you might start to notice over a period of time that they don’t fit as well as they used to, which could be a sign that your teeth are beginning to move out of alignment.
Why do I need to wear my retainer?
Unfortunately, it is natural for your teeth to move back to their original crooked position, and without proper retention, this can quickly happen. How fast your teeth move will vary from person to person, so there is no definitive time frame. If you are worried about your teeth, it is always best to see your Ascent Dental Care orthodontist for advice. Having fixed and removable retainers give the best results as your teeth will consistently be secured in their new position.
I’ve lost my retainer – what should I do?
If you have lost or broken your removable retainers, we will replace them for you. You will need first to book an appointment so that your orthodontic specialist can take impressions of your mouth, which will then be sent to our lab for the replacement retainers to be made. The next appointment will be for you to collect the retainers and ensure that they fit correctly.
